This Weekend: The George Washington sailing team will compete in a trio of regattas this weekend: The Jan Friis Team Race at Coast Guard Academy, The Admiral Team Race at SUNY Maritime, and The Hanbury Trophy at Christopher Newport University.
The Jan Friis Team Race: Set to sail for GW are Brendan Shanahan, Kai Friesecke, Derek Poon-Tip, Sam White, Miranda Bakos, Riley Legault, Belle Strachan, and Alexandra Fayer. The Colonials are set to face a competitive field with top teams from the NEISA Conference there to warm up for the NEISA Team Race Championships in two weeks. GW, Fordham, and Stanford will be the only non-NEISA teams at the regatta.
The Admiral Moore Team Race: Competing for the Colonials are Andrew Sheerin, Daniel DelBello, Wade Wagner, Colin Kennedy, Shira Golub, Alexandra DelBello, Gabriella Malek, and Matt Homa.
Pearce's Points: "This is a great chance for us to measure ourselves against many of the top teams in the nation," said head coach John Pearce. "We are excited to show off our team's depth by competing in both the Friis and the Admiral Moore in the same weekend."
The Hanbury Trophy: Sailing in the A Division boat are Adam DiDomizio and Sam Mandell, while Sarah Alexander and Benjamin Helfand will be competing in the B Division.
Pearce's Points: "This is a very good regional MAISA regatta. We will have three freshmen competing, so it's a great chance for them to gain some regatta experience."
Looking Ahead: Next weekend, the Colonials are headed to the Dellenbaugh Women's Regatta at Brown University.
