ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- In a defensive battle that saw just three first-half goals, the George Washington lacrosse team fell to Navy, 9-1, on Wednesday evening at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Sophomore goalkeeper Adele Wise made nine saves, one shy of her career high, while holding Navy (5-1) to a season-low in goals scored. The nine goals were also the fewest allowed by the Colonials this season.
Seniors Gabbi Hull and Ellie Glasgow picked up a game-high four ground balls apiece and senior Becca Taub had three, as GW recorded a season-high 18 ground balls in the game. Hull added a team-best two caused turnovers.
Wise allowed just three goals in the first half, but the Colonials were unable to find the back of the net as the Mids led 3-0 at the break. Navy then scored the first four goals of the second half before senior Olivia Boudreau found Hull to put the Colonials on the board at the 5:22 mark. The Mids scored twice more over the final four minutes to account for the final margin.
Katie Gallagher paced Navy with three goals, and goalkeeper Ingrid Boyum recorded six saves.
The Colonials return to action on Saturday when they visit Monmouth at 11 a.m.
