GW Baseball Hosts Two Midweek Games

LEADING OFF: The George Washington baseball team will conclude its homestand with a pair of games this week against NJIT (Tuesday, 3 p.m.) and Yale (Wednesday, 3 p.m.) at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior Kevin Mahala earned his first career Player of the Week award from the Atlantic 10 after batting .500 (10-for-20) with five doubles and 10 RBIs last week. He went 4-for-6 with three doubles and six RBIs against Maryland before combining to go 6-of-14 (.428) with two doubles and four RBIs in the series win over Monmouth.
ABOVE AVERAGE: GW's team batting average of .318 ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 21st in NCAA Division I. The trio of sophomore Mark Osis (.421, 1st), junior Andrew Selby (.380, 4th) and Mahala (.369, 8th) each rank among the top 10 in the A-10. The Colonials also rank second in the conference in team doubles (31) and triples (5).
SCOUTING NJIT: The Highlanders are 6-8 on the season and are coming off a three-game sweep of Coppin State over the weekend. NJIT is batting .243 as a team with a combined staff ERA of 5.53. GW and NJIT split a pair of games at the start of last season.
SCOUTING YALE: The Bulldogs are still in search of their first win in 2016, starting the season with an 0-8-1 record. The losses have come against Texas A&M, Connecticut and Navy. Yale is batting .200 as a team with a staff ERA of 8.54. GW leads the all-time series, 4-2, most recently taking two of three games in 2008.
