GW Volleyball Concludes Road Schedule at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. - Three players posted double-digit kills, led by sophomore Kelsey Clark's 12 winners, but the George Washington volleyball team was unable to win its final road match of the regular season in a 3-1 loss at Fordham on Sunday at Rose Hill Gymnasium. Set scores were 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 18-25.
Clark swung .310 with a match-high 12 kills to lead the Colonials while adding seven digs and three block assists. Junior Kristel Moor added 11 kills, four digs and three block assists while senior Chidima Osuchukwu contributed 10 kills, eight blocks (one solo, seven assists), three digs and two service aces.
GW opened the first set by taking an 8-4 lead but Fordham stormed back with a commanding 14-5 run to build an 18-12 lead. The Colonials chipped away to get back to within one at 22-21, but Fordham was able to keep the lead en route to a 25-23 win.
The Colonials rebounded for a 25-22 win in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. GW battled through 16 ties and seven lead changes in the second, the last coming at 21-21. Fordham briefly took a one-point lead on an attack error but GW stormed back to seize the lead and tie the match on a set-closing 4-0 run.
Fordham pulled ahead 2-1 in the mach by winning the third set, 25-19. The Rams were serving for the set at 24-15 but GW staved off set point on four consecutive serves to make the score 24-19, but a kill ended the rally.
The fourth set was tied 5-5 before Fordham created separation with an 8-3 run to build a 13-8 lead. The Rams scored six of the next nine points to cushion the advantage en route to the match-clinching 25-18 win.
Freshman Jaimeson Lee assisted on 37 of GW's 42 kills in the match and added eight digs and three block assists.
GW concludes the regular season with Senior Day on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. against George Mason at the Smith Center. Prior to the Revolutionary Rivalry match the Colonials will honor seniors Osuchukwu, Loren Williams, Maddie Brown and Emily Clemens.
