WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball program will host two days of elite clinics on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4, head coach James DeFeo announced.
Each day will feature four different sessions, with each focusing on a different skill set to target specific areas of learning for campers ages 12-18.
DeFeo, assistant coach Hallie Blackney and current GW softball student-athletes will give elite instruction on each of the two camp days.
Participants can attend one or more session on each day. Sessions will include pitching, catching, hitting, defense and game simulation.
The pitching clinics will guide campers through proper mechanics and players will be able to work on pitch movement and velocity as well as the mental aspect of pitching. Pitching participants must bring their own catcher, who will be able to attend the session free of charge.
Catching sessions will focus on the proper way to receive, frame and block a pitch, while also teaching throwing mechanics, footwork and pitch calling.
Hitting sessions will include slapping instruction and will teach fundamental mechanics to increase power, bat speed and balance as well as the hitter's mentality.
Defensive clinics will feature positional breakdowns, glove work, throwing and situational instruction to improve the skills of both infielders and outfielders.
Each day will close with a game simulation showcase, where campers will be put into teams to play at full game speed, covering all aspects of competition.
The cost for a single session is $75 with discounts for multiple sessions purchased. Each session will be 90-120 minutes long.
Camp will take place at the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus and will utilize Lloyd Gymnasium, also on the Mount Vernon Campus, in the event of inclement weather.
