LEADING OFF: The George Washington volleyball team will host a crucial pair of Atlantic 10 matches this weekend at the Charles E. Smith Center. The Colonials will face La Salle on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday clash with Duquesne at 7:00 p.m.
FAB FRESHMEN: The freshmen trio of Jordan Young, Jaimeson Lee and Madison Clay all played a huge role in GW's come-from-behind win on Wednesday.
Young finished with a season-high 15 kills (.462) and five digs in the victory while Lee finished with a 48-assist, 11-dig double-double, along with six blocks (one solo, five assists). Clay added a season-high 11 digs on the back line.
"Our freshmen stepped up in a big way against UMBC," said head coach Amanda Ault. "For Jaimeson, this is the first time that she set a whole match in the 5-1 offense and we watched her progress, grow up and make good decisions as the match went on. Jordan played outstanding. She was somebody that Jaime could rely on throughout the match and somebody that could put a ball away for us when we needed it most. Madison stepped in and made some huge defensive plays for us at times. She was really tuned in to watching for the roll shots and the tips and taking care of what she needed to on her side of the court."
DOWN THE STRETCH: The top six teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship, November 18-20, in Saint Louis, Missouri.
GW currently sits two wins behind Davidson for the sixth and final spot in the A-10 Championship. The Colonials have an opportunity to make up ground over the final three weeks of the regular season with matches against La Salle, Duquesne, Fordham, Rhode Island and George Mason.
SCOUTING LA SALLE: The Explorers are 10-15 on the season but are just 1-8 in Atlantic 10 play and 2-11 overall in their last 13 matches. Devin Corah paces six players with at least 100 kills, having totaled 275 kills across 24 matches.
GW leads the all-time series with La Salle, 38-2.
SCOUTING DUQUESNE: The Dukes enter Friday's match at George Mason with a 16-8 overall record and a 6-3 mark in the Atlantic 10. Duquesne had a seven-match win streak snapped last weekend by suffering a pair of road losses at Saint Louis and Dayton. Three players have eclipsed the 200-kill threshold. Molly Davet paces the team with 255 kills while Mddie Bazelak and Madelynn Burnham have totaled 222 and 215 winners, respectively.
GW leads the all-time series against Duquesne, 36-14.
