GW Volleyball Hosts UMBC on Wednesday

LEADING OFF: The George Washington volleyball team will conclude its non-conference slate on Wednesday night when it hosts UMBC at the Charles E. Smith Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW has won two out of its past three matches following last Saturday's 3-0 sweep of Davidson at the Smith Center. The Colonials hit a season-high .337 in the match to earn a season split against the Wildcats.
Junior Aaliya Davidson led the Colonials with 16 kills while senior Chidima Osuchukwu added nine errorless kills (.600), six digs and four blocks (two solo, two assists). Junior Kristel Moor also had an efficient match, swinging .474 with 11 kills and seven digs.
NON-CONFERENCE FINALE: GW will look for its seventh non-conference win of the season on Wednesday after picking up wins over Buffalo, Seton Hall, Canisius, Loyola (Md.), Idaho and UMES earlier this season.
LAST TIME VS. UMBC: GW swept UMBC, 3-0, back on August 31, 2013 in the second match of the George Washington Invitational at the Smith Center. Then-junior Kelsey Newman hit .394 with 16 kills and added 12 digs to pace the attack.
Osuchukwu, a freshman at the time of the last meeting, contributed eight kills (.312) and three blocks (one solo, two assists).
SERIES HISTORY: GW holds a 21-1 advantage in the series with the Retrievers, dating back to the 1975 season.
SCOUTING UMBC: The Retrievers carry a four-match win streak, and are 7-2 in their last nine matches, into Wednesday's clash with the Colonials. UMBC is coming off a 3-2 win at Stony Brook on Friday.
Abbie Mirabella leads UMBC with 253 kills, one of four players who have accumulated at least 100 kills this season.
