GW Volleyball Runs Past Davidson, 3-0

WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team swung a season-high .337 in a 3-0 sweep of Davidson on Saturday night at the Charles E. Smith Center. Set scores were 25-15, 25-23, 25-17.
A number of Colonials contributed to the efficient attack, with junior Aaliya Davidson leading the way with a match-high 16 kills.
Senior Chidima Osuchukwu added nine errorless kills (.600), six digs and four blocks (two solo, two assists) while junior Kristel Moor swung .474 with 11 kills and seven digs.
GW dominated the opening set, swinging .394 (17k-4e-33a) and never trailing en route to a 25-15 win. The Colonials broke a 5-5 stalemate with a 9-1 run to open a 14-6 lead and never looked back.
The teams traded points to open the second set to a 10-10 tie before Davidson created separation with a 10-4 run to open a 20-14 lead.
A kill by sophomore Kelsey Clark ignited a furious rally by the Colonials, who scored six straight points to knot the score at 20-20. The teams traded points until three straight kills by Aaliya Davidson put the Colonials ahead 24-22. The Wildcats got one more point back, but Davidson put down a laser just inside the back line to clinch the set, 25-23.
The Wildcats opened the third set on a 7-3 run, but once again GW battled back to seize a 10-9 lead on the strength of a 7-2 run. The Wildcats responded with four straight points to pull ahead 13-10, but GW stormed back in dramatic fashion, unleashing a dominant 12-2 run to take a commanding 22-15 lead. The Wildcats could only muster two more points as GW clinched the sweep with the 25-17 win.
Clark contributed to GW's efficient attack with eight kills (.278) and 12 digs while senior Emily Clemens posted a double-double with 42 assists and 12 digs.
GW will conclude its non-conference schedule on Wednesday evening with a match against UMBC at the Smith Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
