WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team has added freshman Sara Grubac to the roster for the spring semester, head coach Greg Munoz announced on Friday.
"Sara is a Serbian national champion with great natural power," said Coach Munoz. "We expect her to contribute to the top of our lineup and give us a chance to compete for an Atlantic 10 title."
The 5-foot-7 inch righty comes to GW from Belgrade, Serbia, where she won a national championship (U18) in the summer of 2015. A member of the U18 Serbian national team, Grubac was a two-time national runner-up in the 18U division in 2012 and 2013 before claiming her title last summer.
In 2014, Grubac won the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Belgrade Open after entering the tournament as a wild card - forcing her to win eight consecutive matches to claim the championship.
"We are very lucky to gain someone with her ability for this spring," said Coach Munoz. "Her personality will also fit well with our team and program."
As a high school student at Milena Pavlovic Barili, Grubac achieved a perfect, 5.0, grade-point average in three of four years and intends to study environmental science at GW.
