WASHINGTON - George Washington softball head coach Stacey Schramm has added recent graduate Samantha Dos Santos ('15) to the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
"We're thrilled to have Sam join the coaching staff," said Coach Schramm. "As our starting catcher for the past four years, she will be able to provide a ton of help in the bullpen getting our pitchers ready."
Dos Santos graduated as GW's all-time career leader in games played (200), sacrifice hits (37), hit-by-pitch (31), runners caught stealing (45) and chances (1,092). The Hollywood, Florida, native also ranks second in games started (195), walks (80) and putouts (940). The four-year starting backstop helped the Colonials to back-to-back Atlantic 10 Championship appearances in 2012 and 2013.
Dos Santos will assist the Colonials primarily on the weekends, as she is a student at the American University Washington College of Law.
"I care so much about the success of this program, and I am so excited to join the coaching staff and help in any way that I can," said Dos Santos. "GW and the softball program have done so much for me, and it only makes sense to come back and try to give back to the current players."
The Colonials open the 2016 season on Feb. 12th at a three-day Gardner-Webb hosted tournament in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
