WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team will return to action this weekend with a trio of home matches as the Colonials host the annual George Washington Invitational at the Charles E. Smith Center.
GW (1-3) will play a doubleheader on Friday against Princeton (10 a.m.) and UC Davis (7:30 p.m.) before wrapping up the tournament against Radford on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Free tickets, bagels and coffee will be provided for Friday morning's match against Princeton.
A full tournament schedule, along with ticket information and live coverage links, is available at Tournament Central
Last season, the Colonials went 3-0 at the GW Invite with wins over Auburn, Arkansas State and North Dakota.
GW is coming off a 3-2 loss to No. 11 Oregon on Tuesday night at the Smith Center. The Colonials held a 2-0 lead but fell just short of the upset bid as the Ducks rallied for the victory. Junior Chidima Osuchukwu led four Colonials in double-digit kills with 18 winners on the night while adding 10 blocks (one solo, nine assists).
Freshman Kelsey Clark posted her first collegiate double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs, while senior Maggie Skjelbred and junior Loren Williams added 10 kills apiece.
Osuchukwu, the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, enters the weekend leading the conference in total blocks (24), solo blocks (5), block assists (19) and blocks per set (1.41). She also leads the A-10 with 61 total kills while ranking fifth with 3.59 kills per set.
Junior Jordan Timmer paces the conference with 172 total assists while ranking third with 10.12 assists per set.
GW is 6-5 in the all-time series against Princeton and has won two of the past three meetings. The teams last met in 2012 with Princeton earning a 3-0 victory.
The Colonials defeated Radford in the only previous meeting between the two teams, a 3-0 sweep in 2002. GW has never faced UC Davis.
