GW Lacrosse Introduces Freshman Class

WASHINGTON -- Six freshmen have joined the George Washington lacrosse team for the 2015-16 campaign and will begin competing with the Colonials this week when the fall exhibition season begins.
"We are excited to welcome the Class of 2019 to the GW Lacrosse program," said second-year head coach Tracy Coyne. "They bring to the team a dynamic skill set along with a commitment to winning that will definitely make us better. It's a well-balanced class positionally, so they will make a contribution everywhere on the field. Most importantly, they will be engaged students at GW and are looking forward to becoming immersed in the community."
Ellie Allen, a midfielder from Crozet, Virginia, was the 2015 All-South Zone Region Player of the Year and All-Charlottesville Conference Player of the Year. A two-time First-Team All-State, All-Region and All-Conference selection out of Western Albemarle High School, Allen was a member of the 2014 Brine All-American Virginia Team and a two-time member of the U.S. Lacrosse Women's National Tournament Virginia Team. The two-time U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American was also the 2015 recipient of the Women in Sports Outstanding Female High School Athlete Award.
Bridget Cassidy is a midfielder from Gaithersburg, Maryland, who helped lead Our Lady of Good Counsel School to the 2015 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) title and a No. 1 final ranking in The Washington Post. The younger sister of GW junior midfielder Shea Cassidy, Bridget Cassidy received All-WCAC honorable mention as a senior.
Izzy Farrell is a defender from Wayland, Massachusetts, who attended Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia. A 2015 Academic All-American, Farrell was named team MVP as a senior.
Samantha Stinson is a goalkeeper from Westminster, Maryland, who was selected to the All-Monocacy Valley Athletic League (MVAL) First Team and to the All-Carroll County Second Team. In addition, Stinson helped lead the Owls to the Maryland 3A-4A semifinals in 2012.
Emily Torris, a midfielder from Granite Bay, California, was an All-America honorable mention as a senior at Granite Bay High School. The four-time All-League selection led the Grizzlies to three league titles in four years, including back-to-back championships as a junior and senior. Torris also earned Academic All-America honors last spring.
Rachel Yaffe is a midfielder from Lutherville, Maryland, who attended St. Paul's School for Girls. Yaffe was named her school's Athlete of the Year for 2014-15. She also represented Israel at the U-19 World Cup in Scotland over the summer.
