WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team will conclude its non-conference tournament schedule this weekend when it competes at the Panther Invitational at the University of Pittsburgh's Fitzgerald Field House.
The Colonials have won six of their last seven matches after Wednesday's 3-0 sweep at Georgetown. Six players finished with at least five kills, led by junior Loren Williams' 11 winners.
Entering the weekend, GW leads the Atlantic 10 with seven overall victories. The Colonials also lead the conference and rank 17th nationally in team assists (554).
Lehigh enters the weekend with a 7-4 record and has won six of its last eight matches. Three players have registered over 100 kills this season in Leah Turner (105), Stephanie Slater (104) and Whitney Krantz (103). The Colonials defeated the Mountain Hawks in the only meeting between the two schools during the 1979 season.
Bowling Green has played a tough schedule thus far this season and carries a 3-7 record into the Panther Invitational. The Falcons' wins have come against Notre Dame, Cleveland State and IPFW. Jelena Sunjic and Nicole Slimko pace the attack with 144 and 125 kills, respectively. The Falcons have won the only two meetings against GW. The teams last met in 1990.
Pittsburgh was picked to finish seventh in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll and boasts a 7-2 record. The only blemishes on the Panthers' record are losses against No. 5 Nebraska and No. 24 Michigan. Pittsburgh holds a 10-3 record against the Colonials and most recently won a 3-1 decision over GW in the 2012 season opener at Purdue's Mortar Board Premier.
