Friday marks the first-ever meeting between GW and Michigan. The Colonials have a number of ties to both the state of Michigan and to the Wolverines' volleyball program. The Colonials' roster boasts a total of four Michigan natives in seniors Maddy Doyle (Farmington Hills) and Jordan Timmer (Lowell) along with sophomores Christina Porada (Dearborn) and Aaliya Davidson (Belleveille).
Additionally, fifth-year head coach Amanda Ault was an assistant coach at Michigan for three seasons while associate head coach Erin Moore was the Wolverines' first-ever All-American during a standout collegiate career from 2000-04. Moore also served as Michigan's director of volleyball operations from 2006-10.
The Colonials lead the all-time series against West Virginia, 21-7, and have never faced Oakland.
Last season, GW posted its best season in 14 years with the most overall wins (22) and conference victories (11) since 2000 while making its first appearance in the Atlantic 10 championship match since 2002. The Colonials return 10 letterwinners and welcome six newcomers for the 2015 season.
