WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team returned to the Charles E. Smith Center court for its first preseason practice of the 2015 season on Monday afternoon.
The team's first complete day on campus started with an early-morning conditioning session at GW's Mount Vernon Campus. From there, the Colonials traveled back to Foggy Bottom where the team attended a preseason meeting before taking the court for a full-squad workout.
After stretching and warming up the Colonials had an open scrimmage where coaches were able to assess fitness and quality of play. The team then turned to drills that emphasized passing and ball control.
The session concluded with the roster breaking out into positional groups for individual instruction.
"The first day back is always an exciting time because we are all here together for the first time in months," said fifth-year head coach Amanda Ault. "We have some serious goals for this upcoming season and it all starts today. But in reality, this group has been working very hard since the end of last year. We have some unfinished business to take care of."
GW will practice twice per day for the next two weeks leading up to the annual Buff & Blue Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 22. The Colonials will depart for their regular-season opener at the Michigan Invitational on Monday, Aug. 24.
