WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's basketball team led all of NCAA Division I in rebounding margin during the 2014-15 season.
The Colonials outrebounded their opponents by an average of 13.8 boards per game. National champion Connecticut finished second at +12.3 rpg.
GW won the battle of the boards in 31 out of 33 contests on the year, including by 20 or more nine times. The Colonials were never outrebounded by more than two.
Unofficially, GW also led the nation with 47.7 rebounds per game, ahead of second-place Idaho at 45.8 rpg. Rebounding average is not an official statistic kept by the NCAA.
The Colonials were paced by Atlantic 10 Player and Defensive Player of the Year Jonquel Jones, who led the league and ranked sixth in the nation with 12.5 rebounds per game. An honorable mention All-American, Jones' 375 rebounds set GW's single-season record, shattering Darlene Saar's previous mark of 346, which was set in 1992-93.
As a team, the Colonials also set program records for rebounding average, rebounding margin and total rebounds (1,573).
