The Colonials (18-16, 2-7 A-10) split a doubleheader with A-10 opponent and Revolutionary Rivalry foe George Mason on Wednesday, dropping game one, 4-3, in eight innings before taking the nightcap, 3-2. Saint Louis (24-12, 8-3 A-10) took two out of three from Mason last weekend and currently sits in third in the A-10 standings.
In Wednesday's games, sophomore Monica Macchiarulo led all Colonials with three hits, while five of her teammates notched a multiple-hit day against the Patriots.
Senior Victoria Valos leads GW with a .371 season average and a team-best 32 RBIs. The shortstop needs just four hits to reach 200 for her career, a milestone met only one other time in program history - by Olympic bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor ('07).
Junior Carlee Gray is close behind Valos, batting .370 and leads the team with four triples.
In the circle, freshman Sarah Costlow leads the Buff and Blue in wins with 11, while sophomore Paige Kovalsky (7-1) holds opponents to a team-best .239 average.
For Saint Louis, Alex Nickel claims a .448 average with a team-high .542 on-base percentage with the help of a squad-best 24 walks. Five other Billikens are above the .300-mark, while SLU leads the A-10 with 42 home runs.
Brianna Lore leads the Saint Louis hurlers with an 11-7 record and a 2.62 ERA while striking out 87 in 112.1 innings of work.
GW trails SLU, 14-7, in the all-time series, most recently dropping both ends of a doubleheader in last year's matchup.
Sophomore Megan Linn and junior Morgan Matetic each went 4-for-7 against SLU in 2014, while Valos owns a career .417 (10-for-24) batting average against the Billikens with seven RBIs and five runs scored.
Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m., and Sunday's series finale is also scheduled for a noon start. GW women's basketball head coach Jonathan Tsipis will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Sunday's contest.
