WASHINGTON - The George Washington lacrosse team goes for its third win in four Atlantic 10 games when it hosts Richmond on Friday at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus. The game has been moved to 3 p.m. due to anticipated inclement weather.
GW (4-7, 2-1 A-10) defeated Saint Joseph's, 13-9, last Friday behind four goals from senior Rachel Mia and three by sophomore Michaela Lynch. Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Jones made eight saves against the Hawks, and senior Jenn Seitz chipped in four ground balls and three caused turnovers to pace the Colonials' defense.
The reigning A-10 Co-Player of the Week, Mia leads the league with 34 goals and ranks 18th nationally with 3.09 goals per game. She has scored at least one goal in every game this season and in 12 straight contests dating to the end of the 2014 campaign. With her four goals against the Hawks last Friday, she climbed past former teammate Sarah Phillips ('12) into third place all-time at GW with 121 goals in her career; she now needs 13 to catch another former teammate, Megan Seidman ('12), in second.
Senior Jamie Bumgardner is third in the A-10 with 19 assists on the season, and her 32 total points rank fifth. She is second all-time at GW with 97 career helpers, just four shy of Phillips' all-time record of 101, and she ranks fifth with 156 career points. Bumgardner has tallied at least one point in 10-of-11 games this season and 43-of-44 contests over the last three years.
Lynch, who is third on the team with 20 points, has tallied multiple points in six straight games dating to March 17 against Mount St. Mary's, including hat tricks in two of the last three contests. She is averaging 2.83 points per game in that span. Sophomore Bailey Forcier, who ranks second on the Colonials with 16 goals this season, has also been hot of late, scoring seven goals over the last three contests.
Junior Olivia Boudreau is tied with Lynch for third on the team with 20 points, and her 14 assists rank sixth in the league. Boudreau is also tied with Seitz for the team lead with 19 ground balls, while Seitz and Mia are tied with a team-best 13 caused turnovers. Sophomore Shea Cassidy leads the Colonials with 16 draw controls.
Seitz, who has started all 61 games of her career, ranks third all-time at GW with 96 draw controls and is seventh with 112 career ground balls, two behind Kristin Karsch ('08) for sixth place and just three behind Caitlin Garman ('08) for fifth.
Jones has recorded 30 saves against just 26 goals allowed over her last three games between the pipes, and her 188 career saves rank fifth on GW's all-time list.
Richmond (6-6, 3-0 A-10) has won three in a row following a 6-5 overtime victory over A-10 newcomer Davidson on Saturday. Kim Egizi tallied three goals and an assist against the Wildcats en route to her third Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week nod.
Emily Doyle paces the Spiders offensively with 21 goals and 44 points, and her 22 assists lead the A-10 and rank 15th in the nation, while she is second in the league in total points. Bailey Zerr is second in the A-10 and 25th nationally with 51 draw controls, and goalkeeper Emily Boyce ranks second in the league with an 8.97 goals-against average and also leads her squad with 22 ground balls on the year.
As a team, Richmond ranks second in the A-10 with 12.25 draw controls per game and boasts the second-best scoring defense in the conference, allowing just 9.5 goals per contest. However, the Spiders are tied for last in the league with just 9.25 goals scored per game.
Richmond holds a 10-4 all-time series advantage against GW after taking last season's meeting, 13-6. Lynch tallied three goals and two draw controls to lead the Colonials in that game and Jones made eight saves. Bumgardner has recorded six points (1g, 5a) and five ground balls in two career contests against the Spiders while Mia has scored six goals in three games.
