WASHINGTON - GW sailing's quest for a MAISA Women's Championship and ICSA nationals bid highlights a trio of regattas on its penultimate weekend of the regular season.
Along with the MAISA Women's in St. Mary's City, Maryland, GW will also race in the Admiral's Cup in Kings Point, New York, and the Arrigan Memorial Regatta hosted by district rival Georgetown at the Washington Sailing Marina in Arlington, Virginia.
MAISA Women's Championship at St. Mary's
Skippers: India Johnstone, Miranda Bakos, Hannah McNomee, Maria Sinagra
Crews: Gabriella Malek, Meagan Murphy, Jennifer Wilson, Alex Hitchcock, Belle Strachan
"At the MAISA Women's Championship, we are competing for a top-six finish for a trip to the ICSA Women's National Championship," said Head Coach John Pearce. "The wind is forecast to be light, so we will focus on making the most of each race since the total number of races may be limited. Our women's competition team has been racing very well lately, and we have a lot of options to choose from depending on the wind conditions."
GW, which moved from No. 15 to the also receiving votes category in Thursday's latest Sailing World college rankings, will face five ranked teams in No. 6 Navy, No. 7 Georgetown, No. 8 St. Mary's, No. 14 Cornell and No. 15 Old Dominion, as well as vote-getter Fordham in the 16-team fleet.
The Colonials will seek their first-ever ICSA Women's Nationals bid after finishing eighth in 2014 and seventh in their MAISA Women's Championship varsity debut in 2013.

A Division: Brendan Shanahan, Shira Golub
B Division: Roger Dorr, Matt Homa
C Division (laser): Colin Kennedy
"The Admiral's Cup is a big national coed regatta, and we have a lean and mean team representing GW. Our goal is to score another top-seven finish to match our strong performance at the Navy Spring last weekend," said Coach Pearce.
For the third time this season, GW has appeared in the Sailing World coed national rankings, climbing to No. 19 this week after its seventh-place showing at the Navy Spring Regatta. The Colonials will face 12 other ranked coed teams in the 20-boat fleet.
Arrigan Memorial Regatta at Georgetown
Skippers: Sam White, Daniel DelBello, Riley Engelberger
Crews: Gabriella Marki, Madison Oleson
"We will have a trio of skippers splitting the driving duties at the Arrigan. It will be a good regional event and an important opportunity for some of our up-and-coming players to get some competition time," added Coach Pearce.
GW will be among a nine-team fleet along with host Georgetown, Catholic, Christopher Newport, Monmouth, Navy, Rutgers, Stony Brook and Virginia Tech.
