WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team returns home to Tucker Field at Barcroft Park to host Fordham in a three-game Atlantic 10 series beginning on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
The Colonials tied their season-high mark of 16 hits in the victory while avenging an early-season loss to the Hawks after falling, 8-2, on March 3. GW has now won 12 of its last 14 games.
GW's pitching staff ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with a team ERA of 3.22. GW's projected weekend rotation of junior Bobby LeWarne (6-2, 3.93 ERA), freshman Robbie Metz (3-1, 1.82 ERA) and junior Jacob Williams (3-2, 3.00 ERA) have a combined ERA of 3.02 entering the series.
Sophomore Eddie Muhl leads the nation with 13 saves this season after setting GW's single-season saves record on April 12. He has allowed just one earned run over 18.2 innings pitched and boasts a 0.49 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 17 appearances.
GW is batting .276 as a team, which ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10. Three players are batting above .300, led by sophomore Joey Bartosic. He is hitting .346 in addition to leading the team with 26 runs scored, 45 hits and 14 stolen bases.
Selby is riding a 12-game hitting streak and batting .327 with a team-best 18 extra-base hits (11 doubles, five triples, two home runs). He also shares the team lead with 20 RBIs.
Campbell is batting .325 with four doubles and 20 RBIs and has hit safely in eight straight games.
Fordham enters the series with an overall record of 13-20 and a 4-5 mark in A-10 games. The Rams had a three-game win streak snapped in a 7-3 loss at Siena on Wednesday. Fordham has won 2-of-3 from both Davidson and George Mason in conference play this season and suffered a sweep against Richmond.
In conjunction with Major League Baseball's celebration of the life and contributions of Jackie Robinson, the Colonials will host Jackie Robinson Day on Friday. Prior to the game, a player will be selected as the recipient of the Jackie Robinson Award, which is bestowed by the George Washington Jackie Robinson Society for exhibiting the qualities of the legendary sports hero.
On Saturday, the Colonials will proudly host the Third Annual Warren Fulton III Memorial game. Fulton's life was tragically cut short during his senior season in 1988. Since 1989, the GW baseball program has annually presented the Warren Fulton Memorial Award to the player who best exemplifies the spirit, teamwork and sportsmanship demonstrated by the late Fulton.
On Sunday, Bark at Barcroft returns for the second consecutive season. Pet owners will have the opportunity to enter the DogZone, a special area inside the gates of Tucker Field, where local vendors will be providing various dog-related services, free giveaways, information and dog-related advice from various partners. Fans and their pets will then be invited into the grandstand to watch the game.
