WASHINGTON - The George Washington lacrosse team opens Atlantic 10 play this weekend with a pair of road games. The Colonials will visit league newcomer Davidson on Friday at 6 p.m. before heading to La Salle on Sunday for a 3 p.m. contest.
GW (2-6) dropped its non-conference finale to California, 15-11, on Monday afternoon. Senior Rachel Mia, who was named A-10 Player of the Week earlier in the day, paced the Colonials with four goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior Jamie Bumgardner and junior Olivia Boudreau each tallied four points on two goals and two assists, and sophomore Michaela Lynch also scored twice.
Mia leads the A-10 and ranks eighth nationally with 3.5 goals per game, and her 28 markers on the season are good for 17th in the NCAA and tops in the league. In addition, she is second in the conference with 28 total points and 3.5 points per contest and fourth with 1.38 caused turnovers per game. Bumgardner is second in the A-10 in both assists (15) and assists per game (1.88) and ranks fourth in the conference in points (25) and fifth in points per game (3.13). Boudreau also sits among league leaders in assists (10) and assists per game (1.25), ranking fifth in both categories.
Mia is tied with Kristin Karcsh ('08) for fourth all-time at GW with 115 career goals, three shy of former teammate Sarah Phillips ('12) in third place. Bumgardner remains second on the Colonials' career assists list with 93, eight away from Phillips' all-time record of 101. Bumgardner is also fifth in program history with 149 career points while Mia is 10th with 120. Additionally, senior Jenn Seitz moved into fourth place with 94 career draw controls.
Davidson (3-4) hosts GW for its first-ever Atlantic 10 contest on Friday. The Wildcats have dropped two in a row following a 10-5 loss at Elon on Saturday. Nicole Pettiglio and Emma Sissman each scored twice for Davidson, while Emily Rademacher tallied three points on a goal and two assists and Katy Boyle recorded nine saves in goal.
Lucy Sexton ranks third in the A-10 with 19 goals this season and Emily Cooke is tied for third with 13 assists. Sissman leads the Wildcats with 22 draw controls, while Holly Thomas has caused a team-best 14 turnovers to go with 16 ground balls and 16 draws won. Boyle boasts a 10.12 goals-against average and .444 save percentage to go with a team-high 20 ground balls.
Davidson leads the league in scoring, averaging 11.57 goals per game, and allows just 9.86, second-best in A-10 behind national leader Massachusetts.
GW is 6-0 all-time against Davidson following an 8-7 victory at home last season. Mia and Lynch each scored twice to pace the Colonials while Sissman had four of the Wildcats' seven goals.
La Salle (4-4) saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a 12-10 loss at Drexel on Wednesday. Katelyn Fay notched a hat trick and Gabby Antonelli recorded seven saves between the pipes.
Allee Ilgenfritz leads the Explorers with 22 points (15g, 7a), while Fay ranks fifth in the A-10 with 17 goals. Erin McCabe has won a team-high 20 draw controls, and Antonelli owns a 9.93 GAA and .481 save percentage, ranking third and second in the league, respectively, and also leads La Salle with 22 ground balls. La Salle boasts the second-best offense in the A-10, averaging 11.38 goals per contest.
GW owns a 10-3 all-time record against La Salle, but last season's 8-7 overtime loss snapped a 10-game winning streak against the Explorers. Lynch and Boudreau each scored twice in the game, while Ilgenfritz and Caitlyn Brostrand both notched hat tricks for La Salle.
