WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad will continue its Atlantic 10 Conference slate over the weekend as St. Bonaventure comes to town for a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the GW Softball Field at the Mount Vernon Campus, followed by the series finale on Sunday at noon.
The Colonials (14-11, 0-2, A-10) enter the weekend after a 5-2 victory over Virginia on Wednesday. Freshman Sarah Costlow notched her 11th win of the season at the Cavaliers' home field, The Park.
Senior Victoria Valos extended her on-base streak to 15 consecutive games dating back to Feb. 22 with a 2-for-3 performance, including her team-leading fourth home run, plus two runs scored and three RBIs against the Cavaliers. The co-captain's streak is good for seventh place all-time; teammate Megan Linn holds the all-time record at 33. Valos is tied for second-best on the team in batting average (.344) and leads GW with 21 RBIs and a .635 slugging percentage.
Junior Carlee Gray leads all Colonials at the plate with a .397 mark and a team-best three triples, while the speedy Linn claims the most swipes for the Buff and Blue, stealing 17 bases in 19 attempts this year.
Costlow's 11 wins are just two shy of matching the all-time freshman mark, a record held by both junior Meghan Rico and former Colonial Amanda Gabriel (2007-09).
GW dropped its first two conference games to La Salle (4-6, 2-0 A-10) on Sunday at home in a rain-shortened series.
St. Bonaventure (4-12, 0-3 A-10) was swept by conference foe Dayton in its A-10 opening weekend. Emily McDonough leads the Bonnies offensively with a .375 average, while Katie Sinclair (.311) claims a team-high six RBIs.
In the circle, Josie Borysevicz has shouldered the most innings (48.2) for the Bonnies, allowing 62 hits and just seven walks en route to a 4-5 record with a 3.45 ERA.
The all-time series between GW and St. Bonaventure is tied, 9-9, with the Colonials winning seven of the last eight meetings. The teams split last season's doubleheader at St. Bonaventure.
Valos bats a career .692 (9-for-13) against the Bonnies, while Gray has posted a .555 (5-for-9) average.
