WASHINGTON - The George Washington lacrosse team returns to the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus on Tuesday afternoon to host Navy. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
GW (1-2) is coming off a 17-13 loss at Liberty on Wednesday. Senior Rachel Mia led the Colonials with five goals while sophomore Bailey Forcier tallied a career-high four points on two goals and two assists.
Mia ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with 11 goals this season and third with 3.67 goals per game, and Bumgardner is second in the league with five assists and 1.67 helpers per game. Mia is also second in the conference with 11 points and fourth with 3.67 points per contest while Bumgardner is third in total points (9) and seventh in points per game (3.0). Bumgardner has recorded nine points on four goals and a team-best five assists. She has tallied a point in 38 straight contests dating back to the 2013 season opener.
Seniors Rachel Quinn and Jenn Seitz pace the Colonials with seven ground balls apiece through three games, and junior Gabbi Hull has won a team-high seven draw controls. Seitz also leads the team with seven caused turnovers.
Mia ranks seventh all-time at GW with 98 career goals and needs just two more to become the sixth player in program history with 100 in her career. Bumgardner is second on the Colonials' all-time list with 83 assists and eighth with 131 total points, and Seitz ranks fifth with 91 career draw controls.
Navy (5-1) has won three in a row with its lone loss come at No. 8 Duke on Feb. 15. The Mids, who are receiving votes in this week's IWLCA poll, are coming off a 12-9 win over William and Mary on Saturday in which they held the Tribe to just three goals in the second half and recorded 18 caused turnovers. Loren Generi led Navy with three goals, six ground balls, eight draw controls and four caused turnovers in the game.
Generi, a three-time All-Patriot League attacker, paces the Mids in nearly every category through six games this season, including goals (19), assists (10), points (29), draw controls (55) and caused turnovers (9), and she is tied for third on the team with 10 ground balls. Navy has outscored its opponents, 82-45, on the year, and goalkeeper Annie Foky boasts a stellar 6.91 goals-against average to go with a team-best 13 ground balls.
Navy has won both previous meetings with GW, including a 14-8 decision last season in D.C.
