RESULTS: CHARLESTON WOMEN'S REGATTA | MENDELBLATT TEAM RACE
WASHINGTON - GW sailing begins its 2015 spring season with 13 sailors competing at two regattas in the Southeastern U.S. - the Mendelblatt Team Race in Tampa, Florida, and the Charleston Women's Regatta in Charleston, South Carolina - this weekend on Feb. 28 to March 1.
GW was also scheduled to compete at the Pirate Team Race in Hampton, Virginia, but that regatta has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

At the Mendelblatt Team Race, GW will battle host USF as well as Christopher Newport, MIT, Michigan, Eckerd, Jacksonville, Texas A&M Galveston and Tulane. The team racing format features head-to-head races against each team with three boats per team. The field of teams will compete in several round-robins, resulting in a win-lose record for each team.
"The Mendelblatt Team Race is the kickoff to our 2015 team racing season," said Head Coach John Pearce. "We have some fantastic team racing talent on the team this year, and we should be strong contenders at this opening weekend regatta."

Skippers: Maria Sinagra, Hannah McNomee, India Johnstone, Alex Hitchcock, Miranda Bakos
Crews: Jennifer Wilson, Belle Strachan
Half of the 14-team fleet at the Charleston Women's Regatta concluded the fall season in the Sailing World women's college top 15, highlighted by top five teams Navy, Yale and Georgetown.
"Five different skippers will split time at our first women's regatta of the season, while Jennifer and Belle stay in the crewing position throughout the regatta. We have a lot of important contributors on the women's side this season, and I'm excited to kick things off this weekend with a group effort," added Coach Pearce.
Following this weekend's debut events, GW will return to the district to prepare for its first-ever home regatta as a varsity program at the GW Team Race hosted at the Washington Sailing Marina on March 7-8. There will be a boat dedication ceremony at 8:30 a.m. prior to the start of racing on Saturday, March 7.
