WASHINGTON - GW golf tees off its seven-event spring season on March 2 and 3 at new Atlantic 10 rival Davidson's Invitational hosted at River Run Country Club in Davidson, North Carolina.
The tournament, which will be shortened to 36 holes from 54 due to inclement weather, is the third of five in the Carolinas for the Colonials during the 2014-15 season, including the first of three this spring. Play will be 18 holes on Monday (shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.) and Tuesday (1st & 10th at 8:30 a.m.).
GW is slated to be joined by host Davidson along with Charlotte, Chattanooga, Gardner-Webb, Holy Cross, Longwood, Marshall, Presbyterian, Radford, Stetson and Wofford in the 12-team event.
GW will send six golfers to compete on the par-72, 7,208-yard River Run layout - senior Jack Persons, junior Michael Helton, sophomores Lucas Farmer and Michael Heda, and freshmen Zack Bailey and Jack Porcelli, with Bailey playing as an individual.
GW finished the fall 2014 season with a 300.2 team scoring average over five events and 15 rounds, the lowest for the program since averaging 299.3 over seven events and 17 rounds in fall 2008.
