WASHINGTON - The George Washington lacrosse team opens its home slate on Saturday when it hosts Yale for the first time ever. Opening draw from the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus has been moved to 12 p.m.
GW (0-1) is coming off a 16-3 loss to No. 17 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon in its season opener. Senior Rachel Mia scored twice for the Colonials while sophomore Bailey Forcier also found the back of the net.
With her two markers, Mia moved into a tie for ninth place all-time at GW with 89 career goals. Senior Jamie Bumgardner currently ranks second in career assists with 79 after dishing out one helper against the Blue Jays, and she is also eighth with 125 career points. Senior Jenn Seitz also moved into a three-way tie for fifth place with 89 career draw controls, and senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Jones, who had six saves on Wednesday, is now sixth all-time with 122 career saves.
Yale will make its season debut on Saturday. The Bulldogs are coming off a 9-6 campaign in 2014 and return nine starters, including leading scorer Nicole Daniggelis, a first team All-Ivy League and second team All-Northeast Region selection who tallied 39 goals and 51 points last season. Yale ended last season ranked 13th in the nation in scoring defense, boasting an 8.20 goals-against average, but will have a new goalkeeper in net this season.
