- With GW's win over Villanova on Sunday, the Colonials have knocked off a Big East opponent in three consecutive seasons. GW downed Georgetown, 72-60, last year and defeated Villanova, 76-66, in the second round of the 2014 WNIT.
- The Colonials overcame a five-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter with a 17-2 surge over a span of 3:22. It marked GW's second straight come-from-behind victory after rallying from a 16-point second-quarter deficit at Memphis a week earlier.
- Senior Jonquel Jones posted her eighth straight double-double and the 44th of her career with 23 points and 15 rebounds against the Wildcats. She surpassed Jessica Adair ('09) for eighth place on GW's all-time rebounding list with 783 in just three years as a Colonial. The nation's leading rebounder, Jones is averaging 15.8 boards per game to go with a league-best 18.2 points per contest this season, and her eight double-doubles are tied for tops in the NCAA.
- Junior Caira Washington posted her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds on Sunday. It marked the second straight game and third time overall this season that two Colonials have recorded a double-double in the same game. Jones and Washington also did so against Houston on Thanksgiving Day, while Jones and sophomore Brianna Cummings accomplished the feat last Sunday at Memphis.
- Graduate student Lauren Chase scored a season-high 21 points, connecting on 7-of-10 shots from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers. It marked the second time this season that a pair of Colonials topped 20 points in the same game after Jones and Washington against Houston on Thanksgiving Day.
- Chase dished out six assists while committing just one turnover in a game-high 38 minutes on the court on Sunday.
- GW won the battle of the boards for the 10th straight game to start the season, outrebounding Villanova, 46-29. The Colonials continue to lead the nation in rebounding (50.9 rpg) and rank fourth in rebounding margin (+16.9 rpg).
- GW held an 18-8 edge on the offensive glass, which yielded a 17-0 advantage on second-chance points.
- With her 12 rebounds against Villanova, Washington moved past Gloria Murphy ('88) into sole possession of 15th place at GW with 654 in her career.
Quotable
"The Smith Center is such a special place when it's loud. Both Coach Lonergan's team and my team take a lot of pride in protecting our home court. It was a great atmosphere and the crowd stayed with them even when Villanova got (the lead) to five."- Head Coach Jonathan Tsipis
