2016 GW Lacrosse Schedule
WASHINGTON -- The George Washington lacrosse team will host seven games at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus as part of its 17-match 2016 regular-season schedule, second-year head coach Tracy Coyne announced on Thursday.
GW opens its 2016 campaign with five straight road games, starting with its first-ever game against Monmouth on Saturday, Feb. 13. The Colonials then visit Delaware on Feb. 16 for their third straight meeting with the Blue Hens before taking on regional foes UMBC (Feb. 27), Navy (March 2) and Mount St. Mary's (March 9). GW will face the Retrievers for the first time ever, while the Colonials will meet the Patriot League runner-up Mids for the fourth year in a row and the Mount for the 15th consecutive season.
The Colonials host Yale on Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m. in the home opener at the GW Lacrosse Field. GW defeated the Bulldogs, 13-5, in the first-ever matchup between the two teams last February. Next up is a trip to Macon, Georgia, for the inaugural meeting with the Mercer Bears on March 15, before returning home to host Old Dominion for the first time in the non-conference finale on March 19.
"We're excited about the 2016 season and can't wait to officially begin play in February," said Coach Coyne. "Our opponents will challenge us to compete at the highest level to be successful but more importantly prepare us for a demanding A-10 schedule. We have a core nucleus of veteran players returning who are determined to compete in the A-10 Championship this year."
GW begins Atlantic 10 Conference play at home against Revolutionary Rival George Mason on Friday, April 1. The Colonials will also host Davidson (April 8), seven-time defending A-10 champion Massachusetts (April 10), La Salle (April 22) and Saint Joseph's (April 30) and will travel to St. Bonaventure (April 3), A-10 runner-up Richmond (April 15), first-year program VCU (April 17) and Duquesne (April 24).
The 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship will take place at Duquesne's Rooney Field from May 5-8, with the top six teams in the regular-season standings qualifying for the three-day conference tournament.
