GW Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision at Saint Louis

SAINT LOUIS - Junior Chidima Osuchukwu finished with 10 kills but the George Washington volleyball team was unable to get past Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0, at Chaifetz Arena. Set scores were 21-25, 26-28, 20-25.
GW (18-10, 7-5 A-10) will conclude the regular season by hosting Duquesne (Fri., 3 p.m.) and La Salle (Sat., 7 p.m.) next weekend at the Charles E. Smith Center.
The Colonials swung .126 (35k-22e-103a) in the match but had trouble offsetting a balanced attack by Saint Louis (21-8, 10-3 A-10).
GW led early in the first set by a score of 8-7 but conceded a 7-0 run to fall behind 15-8. The Colonials used a 4-2 spurt late in the set to close within three points of the lead at 24-21, but a kill by Danielle Rygelski clinched the first set for Saint Louis.
The teams fought through 11 ties and seven lead changes in the second set. The Billikens played out to a 16-11 lead but the Colonials retaliated by scoring seven straight points to pull ahead, 18-16. Neither team led by more than one point the rest of the way. GW served for the set at 26-25, but Saint Louis stormed back with three straight points to clinch the 28-25 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Billikens committed just four attack errors in the third set and limited the Colonials to a .081 (10k-7e-31a) attack percentage en route to match-clinching 25-20 win.
Rygelski led all players with 21 kills (.419).
Freshman Kelsey Clark and sophomore Aaliya Davidson each posted six kills while senior Maggie Skjelbred added five winners.
Senior Jordan Timmer finished with 26 assists, five kills and five digs.
