GW Volleyball Sweeps Davidson for Fourth Straight Win

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The George Washington volleyball team hit a season-high .343 (51k-13e-107a) and had two players finish with double-digit kills in a 3-0 sweep over Davidson on Sunday afternoon at Belk Arena. Set scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-21.
The win marks the fourth in a row for GW (13-5, 3-0 A-10) and its 12th victory in the last 14 outings.
Sophomore Aaliya Davidson paced the Colonials on Sunday with 13 kills on a .370 attack percentage. She added 10 digs for her first career double-double along with three blocks (one solo, two assists) and a pair of service aces.
Freshman Kelsey Clark also had an efficient afternoon, swinging a season-high .526 with 11 kills against just one attack error.
GW hit .419 in the opening set, committing just two attack errors, while forcing 10 Davidson (7-10, 2-2 A-10) miscues in a 25-18 win. The Wildcats held an early 3-2 lead, but four straight points by the Colonials opened a 6-3 advantage. Davidson briefly fought back to knot the score at 9-9, but the Colonials pulled ahead with three straight points and never looked back in taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
GW used a substantial run midway through the second set to earn a 25-19 win and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Wildcats seized a one-point lead at 12-11 before GW erupted on a 10-3 run to take a 21-15 lead. Davidson battled back to pull within five at 23-18, but consecutive kills down the stretch by GW's Davidson and senior Maggie Skjelbred clinched the set.
The Colonials' defense limited Davidson to a match-low .049 (9k-7e-41a) attack percentage en route to a match-clinching 25-21 win in the third set. The Colonials turned a 15-14 deficit into a 23-19 lead thanks to a 9-4 run and later clinched the match on a kill by junior Chidima Osuchukwu.
Skjelbred contributed to GW's season-high attack percentage with nine kills against just one error (.533) and added three blocks (one solo, two assists).
Osuchuku totaled seven kills and a match-high four blocks (one solo, three assists).
Senior Jordan Timmer assisted on 35 of GW's kills in addition to eight digs and two block assists.
Senior Maddy Doyle tallied 12 digs and added six assists.
GW will play a pair of crucial Atlantic 10 matches at home next weekend at the Charles E. Smith Center. The Colonials will host Saint Louis on Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming defending conference champion Dayton on Saturday at 7 p.m.
