WASHINGTON -- The George Washington sailing team earned national recognition for its strong start to the season as the first Sailing World college rankings were released on Friday.
The Colonials are ranked No. 10 nationally in women's competition while narrowly missing the top 20 in the coed poll, coming in as the first team also receiving votes.
"It's still very early in the year, but it's nice to be ranked in the top 10 for women's competition," said Head Coach John Pearce. "We had strong finishes at the Stu Nelson regatta up at Connecticut College and at the MAISA Women's Singlehanded Championships last weekend, where we qualified two team members for the ICSA Women's Singlehanded Nationals later this fall. We are looking forward to getting back out on the racecourse next weekend at the Navy Fall Women's Interconference regatta."
With this weekend's scheduled regattas canceled due to inclement weather, GW returns to racing Oct. 10-11.
