GW (15-7, 5-2 A-10) improves to 6-2 on the road this season and has now won four straight road matches, with the last three coming as 3-0 sweeps after wins over Davidson (Oct. 4), La Salle (Friday) and Duquesne (10-11, 4-3 A-10).
The Colonials posted their second-best hitting percentage of the season on Sunday, swinging .345 (50k-12e-110a), while forcing 18 attack errors by the Dukes with 9.0 team blocks.
GW hit .310 (18k-5e-42a) and led wire-to-wire in the first set en route to a 25-23 win. The Colonials sprinted out to a 5-1 lead to begin the match and led by as many as 10 points before Duquesne mounted a comeback down the stretch. With GW leading 23-15, the Dukes scored eight of the next nine points to pull within one point of the lead, but a ball handling error clinched the 25-23 win for the Colonials.
The Dukes opened the second set with momentum in their corner and led for majority of the frame, building a 19-15 lead. A kill from freshman Hanna Justesen was the launch point for a 10-0 run down the stretch that gave the Colonials a 25-19 win and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The Colonials were never threatened in the third set, maintaining the lead after breaking a 2-2 tie for the remainder of the match, en route to the match-clinching 25-16 win. The Colonials hit .469 in the final frame and committed just one attack error.
Osuchukwu's 16 kills give her 988 for her career, putting her 12 winners shy of becoming the 13th member of GW's 1,000-kill club. The NCAA blocks leader also added three rejections (one solo, two assists).
Sophomore Aaliya Davidson finished with 12 kills against just one error (.550) in addition to five digs while freshman Kelsey Clark contributed 10 kills (.333) and one block assist.
Senior Maggie Skjelbred provided four block assists at the net and added five kills while senior Jordan Timmer directed the offense with 37 assists along with seven digs and three block assists.
Senior Maddy Doyle, the Atlantic 10's digs leader entering the weekend, dug 18 balls in the match to pace the back line.
GW will conclude its non-conference schedule on Wednesday night when it welcomes District rival American to the Charles E. Smith Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
