GW Volleyball Sweeps La Salle to Open Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - The George Washington volleyball team put forth a balanced offensive attack while allowing the lowest opponent hitting percentage of the season in a 3-0 rout of La Salle on Friday evening at Tom Gola Arena. Set scores were 25-18, 25-15, 25-15.
GW (14-7, 4-2 A-10) swung .268 (33k-14e-71a) and had four players record at least five kills. Junior Chidima Osuchukwu led the attack with nine kills against just one error (.667) and added a match-high six blocks (two solo, four assists).
On the team defensive side, the Colonials forced 22 attack errors in the match. La Salle (6-16, 0-6 A-10) swung just .025 (24k-22e-81a) across the three sets.
GW broke a 4-4 tie in the first set with five straight points and never looked back en route to a 25-18 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Colonials forced nine attack errors in the frame while converting 78-percent (15-of-19) of sideout point opportunities.
La Salle seized a brief one-point lead at 7-6 in the second set before the Colonials erupted to score seven straight points as part of a 13-4 run to build a 19-11 lead. GW extended the lead to nine points before clinching the frame with a 25-15 win.
GW's defense continued to cause problems for the Explorers in the third frame, forcing eight attack errors while yielding just five kills, en route to a match-clinching 25-15 win.
Freshman Kelsey Clark finished with seven kills and three digs while sophomore Aaliya Davidson contributed six kills (.286), three digs and two service aces. Senior Maggie Skjelbred also had an efficient evening, posting five kills (.333) with two digs and one block assist.
Senior Jordan Timmer facilitated the offense with 23 assists along with seven digs.
The Colonials continue their Pennsylvania road trip on Sunday afternoon when they face Duquesne at the A.J. Palumbo Center. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
