GW Volleyball Set for First A-10 Road Trip

WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team will embark on its first Atlantic 10 road trip of the season when it visits VCU on Friday evening at 7 p.m. before traveling to meet Davidson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Senior Maddy Doyle and freshman Hanna Justesen each earned weekly awards from the Atlantic 10 for their play across the two matches. Doyle was named the Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.50 digs per set and moving into second place on GW's all-time digs list with 1,436. Justesen posted a pair of double-digit kill matches while averaging 2.88 kills and 2.50 digs per set. She also recorded her first collegiate double-double in the win over George Mason with 11 kills and 11 digs.
Junior Chidima Osuchukwu continues to pace the Atlantic 10 and hold top-20 rankings in the NCAA in a number of categories entering the weekend.
She leads both the A-10 and the nation with 88 total blocks and holds national rankings of fourth in total points (308.5), 16th in total kills (252), 19th in blocks per set (1.42) and 20th in points per set (4.98).
Senior Jordan Timmer is also ranked among the nation's elite at the setter position. She ranks second in the A-10 and 5th in the nation with 694 assists, and her average of 11.19 assists per set also ranks second in the A-10 and 28th nationally.
Doyle ranks second in the A-10 in both total digs (265) and digs per set (4.27).
As a team, GW leads the Atlantic 10 in both total blocks (154.0, 7th in NCAA) and blocks per set (2.48, 51st in NCAA). The Colonials also rank second in assists per set (12.60), total assists (781) and total kills (827).
VCU is 6-10 overall in 2015 after dropping both of its conference matches last weekend with losses at Rhode Island and Fordham. Three Rams have accumulated 100+ kills on the season, led by Sahbria McLetchie (164). Kalah Jones has totaled 129 winners while Jane Fedderson has added 101 kills.
Davidson (6-9, 1-1 A-10) will host George Mason on Friday night before facing the Colonials on Sunday. The Wildcats split their first weekend of conference matches with a 3-1 win over Fordham and a 3-0 loss to Rhode Island. Rooney Mason leads the team with 101 kills on the season. She has also totaled 215 assists while splitting the setting duties with Derochie Mikayla (227 assists).
