GW Gymnastics Wins Beauty & Beast Meet to Open 2015

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The George Washington gymnastics team posted a total score of 194.325 and won a trio of individual event titles to win the Beauty and the Beast Meet over Maryland and West Virginia in its season opener on Friday night at XFINITY Center.
GW's score of 194.325 was aided by a team title on balance beam (48.65) along with scores of 48.65 on vault, 48.275 on uneven bars and 48.7 on floor exercise.
The freshman duo of Jillian Winstanley and Cami Drouin-Allaire each won event titles in their collegiate debuts. Winstanley won the all-around title with a score of 39.00 while Drouin-Allaire was the top performer on vault, scoring 9.85.
Additionally, sophomore Chelsea Raineri finished in a three-way tie for the floor exercise title with a score of 9.85.
Winstanley posted a second-place finish on uneven bars with a score of 9.825 and added marks of 9.675 on balance beam (t-9th) and 9.75 on floor exercise (8th) for the all-around title.
The Colonials swept the all-around podium, as sophomore Alex DeMoura (38.975) and Drouin-Allaire (38.65) finished in second and third place, respectively.
DeMoura's career-high all-around mark was comprised of 9.775 on vault (t-9th), 9.70 on uneven bars (4th), 9.725 on balance beam (6th) and 9.775 on floor exercise (7th).
In addition to her vault title, Drouin-Allaire added scores of 9.45 on uneven bars (t-13th), 9.625 on balance beam (11th) and 9.725 on floor exercise (t-9th).
The freshman duo of Liz Pfeiler and Sara Mermelstein were exceptional on balance beam in their debuts. Pfeiler scored 9.825 for second place while Mermelstein took third place with 9.80.
West Virginia finished in second place with 193.50 while Maryland took third place with 193.025. Both the Mountaineers (Big 12) and Terrapins (Big Ten) are former members of the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL).
GW will return to the Charles E. Smith Center for its home opener, the Eighth Annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational, on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
