2015 Schedule
WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team's 2015 schedule will feature contests against five of last season's NCAA Regional participants, Head Coach Stacey Schramm announced.
The Colonials open the season in Alabama at the Plainsman Invite hosted by Auburn from Feb. 6-8, where they face three NCAA Regional contenders in the host Tigers, UAB and Southern Conference champion UT-Chattanooga. GW will also take on Evansville and Appalachian State to round out the spring's opening weekend.
The Buff and Blue will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, for a three-game set with UNC-Greensboro from Feb. 14-15 before heading south to Orlando, Florida, for the Citrus Classic from Feb. 20-22. The Colonials' opponents at that tournament will be announced at a later date.
GW visits Norfolk, Virginia, from Feb. 27-March 1 for the Spartan Clash, where it will play a pair of games each against Delaware and host Norfolk State.
The Colonials host the Colonial Classic from March 6-8 to open home play, with St. John's and Army participating. GW will then welcome Lafayette, Maryland, Drexel and Princeton to the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for the Capital Invitational on March 13-15.
Local rival Howard will visit GW on March 19 before reigning Ivy League Champion and NCAA Regional participant Dartmouth comes to town in a mid-week matchup on March 24. Other non-conference highlights include a short trip to Virginia (March 25) and home match-ups against UMBC (March 31), Cornell (April 1), Coppin State (April 15) and Georgetown (April 21).
Atlantic 10 Conference play begins March 21-22 at rival LaSalle for a trio of games in Philadelphia. GW will also travel to Massachusetts (April 3-4), Dayton (April 18-19) and defending A-10 champion and NCAA Regional participant Fordham (April 25-26), and the Colonials will host St. Bonaventure (March 28-29), George Mason (April 8), Saint Louis (April 11-12) and Rhode Island (May 2-3). Conference opponents will play three-game sets for the first time in 2015.
The Atlantic 10 Championship will take place May 6-9 at Massachusetts. The Colonials have qualified for the six-team tournament in two of the last three seasons.
