The George Washington baseball team did not let a modest coating of snow stop them from going all out at Tuesday's practice session at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. The full-squad workout was as normal as any other baseball practice, except with a two-inch coating of snow covering the field.
"The Colonials are in relentless pursuit of excellence and an Atlantic 10 Championship," said head coach Gregg Ritchie. "Weather is no obstacle, especially when we all have beards!"
At the end of fall practice, Coach Ritchie decreed the team grow out their facial hair as an act of team bonding, but also to combat the slow starts that have plagued the Colonials each of the past two seasons.
"We had a no facial hair rule the past two years and we started both of those seasons 3-9 through our first 12 games," explained Coach Ritchie. "In an effort to combat the slow starts and have some team bonding, we are letting the beards grow."
GW returns 23 letterwinners from last year's squad while welcoming in eight freshmen and two junior transfers. The Colonials will open their 2015 campaign on Saturday, February 14, with a doubleheader against NJIT at Tucker Field.

Coach Ritchie wants all GW Baseball fans to know that his family is 100-percent onboard for the 2015 season, beards and all!
