WASHINGTON- The George Washington men's swimming and diving team fell short against local rival Georgetown and Atlantic 10 foe Davidson in Saturday's 16-event double-dual meet at the Hoyas' Albert G. McCarthy, Jr. Pool.
The Colonials amassed 134.00 points against Georgetown, but fell short as the Hoyas finished with a score of 153.00. GW's 94.50 points against Davidson also couldn't catch the 184.50 posted by the Wildcats.
Senior Goran Koprivnjak paced the Colonials with four top-five finishes, including three race victories. Koprivnjak won the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.89), the 200-butterfly (1:54.12), and the 200-individual medley (1:56.98), before joining freshman Adam Drury, sophomores Ben Fitch and Bogdan Balteanu for a top finish in the 400-free relay.
Sophomore Liam Huffman posted a second-place performance in the 1000-free (9:42.61), one of four runner-up efforts and a trio of third-place performances that rounded out GW's top finishes on the day. Junior Oliver Keegan's time of 1:56.50 in the 200-fly marked the first second-place finish of the day, with Gustav Hokfelt's 1:57.36 in the 200-backstroke and Huffman's 4:42.18 in the 500-free also earning second place. The squad of senior Joe Lipworth, senior Adam Rabe, Fitch and Hokfelt took third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.52), while Hokfelt finished two tenths of a second ahead of Lipworth for third (54.12) and fourth (54.32) place, respectively, in the 100-backstroke. In another close finish, Balteanu (48.45) edged Drury (48.75) for third place in the 100-free.
GW returns home to take on local foe Howard University on Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center pool.
