
Colonials Swimming and Diving Sweeps Top Spots Over Howard

WASHINGTON- The George Washington men's swimming and diving team swept the top spot in all 11 events on Friday and downed local rival Howard to open Homecoming Weekend.
The Colonials accumulated 86 points to outscore Howard's 72 to solidify a victory in 2015's first home meet.
Seniors Adam Rabe and Goran Koprivnjak and freshman Gustav Hokfelt led the Colonials, each with two first place finishes and a runner-up effort. Rabe's victories came in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.28) and 100- breaststroke (59.66), while he finished second in the 200- medley relay alongside classmate Joe Lipworth, sophomore Ben Fitch and freshman Aneil Srivastava (1:39.54). Hokfelt finished first in the 100- butterfly (54.77) and 100- backstroke (53.76). His second-best performance came in the 200- IM (2:02.17). Koprivnjak won the 50- free (21.71), and joined forces with sophomore Bogdan Balteanu and freshman Jarvus Pennington and Adam Drury to finish first in the 200- free relay (1:30.53). Koprivnjak placed second in the 100- breast with a time of 1:00.42.
Other top finishers included sophomore Liam Huffman in the 500- and 1000- free in 4:42.92 and 9:51.13, respectively, freshman Connor Hart in the 200- free (1:46.67), and Fitch in the 100- free (48.78). The team of sophomore Ryan O'Malley, senior Oliver Keegan, Balteanu and Srivastava clinched the top spot in the 200- medley relay in 1:39.30 to round out the day's best finishes.
The Colonials return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 31 to renew the #RevolutionaryRivalry and take on George Mason for a senior day celebration. Seniors Garrett Cottingham, Koprivnjak, Lipworth and Rabe will be recognized prior to the 1 p.m. meet.
