WASHINGTON - Kasey Mock and Sarah Jane Leder have joined the GW lacrosse coaching staff under the direction of first-year Head Coach Tracy Coyne. Mock has been named an assistant coach for the Colonials while Leder will serve as a volunteer assistant.
A current member of the United States National Women's Lacrosse Team, Coach Mock comes to GW following a four-year career at Syracuse where she helped the Orange to a 2013 Big East championship. After moving to the Atlantic Coast Conference prior to her final season, Coach Mock guided Syracuse to the 2014 ACC title game. Coach Mock's squad advanced to three NCAA Final Fours and two National Championship games during her career.
"Kasey had tremendous success at Syracuse both academically and athletically," said Coach Coyne. "She brings with her the knowledge of what it means to compete for a national championship, and as a member of the U.S. National Team she understands what it means to play at the highest level. What an asset these experiences will be to our program."
A standout on defense, Coach Mock was named to the distinguished Tewaaraton Award Watch List prior to the 2014 season. During her senior campaign she earned a spot on the ACC All-Conference Second Team, the IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team and the IWLCA All-America Second Team. She was a four-time All-Academic selection, earning Big East honors from 2011-13 and ACC accolades in 2014.
Coach Mock also spent two years as the head coach of the Aftershock Lacrosse Program where she coached middle school-aged girls for one season and rising high school seniors for another year.
Coach Mock, who received the Chancellor's Award for Public Engagement and Scholarship, graduated from Syracuse in December 2014 with a bachelor's degree in inclusive elementary and special education.
"I am very appreciative and excited about the opportunity Patrick Nero, Garrett Klassy and Tracy Coyne have given me to join the GW Athletics staff," Coach Mock said. "I am beyond eager to be a part of the GW lacrosse team's success this upcoming season as we work toward an A-10 Championship."
Coach Leder joins the Colonials following a four-year career at Mount St. Mary's, where she was the starting goalkeeper and team captain as a senior in 2013. That season she was named to the Northeast Conference All-Tournament Team, as well as the NEC Academic Honor Roll. Coach Leder finished her career sixth all-time at the Mount with 160 saves after ranking in the top 30 in the nation in saves her senior season.
"We are so fortunate to have Sarah Jane as our volunteer assistant," said Coach Coyne. "She is a very dedicated individual who is passionate about lacrosse. Sarah Jane was taught by many of the best coaches in the game during college. Exposure to those viewpoints has given her great ideas about motivating the team to succeed."
During the summer of 2011, Coach Leder traveled to Uganda to serve as a coach with Fields of Growth International. While in Uganda she trained players for the first national lacrosse tournament, worked in the village of Kindu, ministered to children and worked on building a school.
Coach Leder graduated from Mount St. Mary's in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in economics and minors in mathematics and theology, and she obtained a master's of business administration from Mount St. Mary's in 2013. She currently works with the George Washington University through the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS).
