The Colonials eventually extended the lead to four points at 14-10 and forced a timeout.
Out of the stoppage, GW continued to apply pressure with a 6-2 run to extend the lead to 20-12 and yielded just three points the rest of the way to earn the 25-15 win.
The Colonials started the fourth set on a 5-1 run but Illinois State rallied to take the lead at 14-11. The Colonials could not recover and the Red Birds clinched the match with a 25-19 win.
