WASHINGTON - GW sailing will send 19 sailors to four regattas to open its 2014 fall season this weekend.
Harry Anderson Jr. Trophy at Yale
A Division: Roger Dorr with crews Miranda Bakos and Matthew Ricci
B Division: Kai Friesecke with crew Henry Young
Impressed by freshmen in early practices, Coach Pearce jumped at the opportunity when one of four available MAISA spots in this challenging NEISA regatta recently opened. "This is the biggest event in the ICSA this weekend on a national scale. Yale is the two-time defending national champion, so it's a great way to start off a big year!"
MAISA Laser South Qualifier at Navy
Brendan Shanahan, Daniel DelBello, Colin Kennedy
The trio of GW sophomores will be among 20 singlehanded competitors from Drexel, Georgetown, Old Dominion, Navy and St. Mary's (Md.) seeking a top-six showing to qualify for the MAISA Men's Singlehanded Championships in Annapolis on Oct. 11-12. DelBello and Kennedy placed second and sixth, respectively, at last year's qualifier.
Riley Cup at ODU
Team 1 A Division: Hannah McNomee and Meagan Murphy
Team 1 B Division: Madison Oleson with crews Gabriella Marki and Michael Ince
Team 2 A Division: Sam White and Kelly Dong
Team 2 B Division: Jay Spector and Madeline Taggart
Coach Pearce will send a pair of coed teams consisting mostly of returners to this "very good regional MAISA event," seeking an improvement on 10th- and 11th-place finishes last fall.
Radial Open at Navy
Taylor Brimberg, Kia Olsson
For the first time in program history, GW will race in a women-only Laser event as Coach Pearce will send two talented freshmen to represent the Colonials in an 18-boat fleet.
