GW Volleyball Hosts Colonials Challenge This Weekend

WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team returns to the Charles E. Smith Center this weekend to host the Colonials Challenge on Friday and Saturday.The Colonials will face Columbia on Friday at 10:00 a.m. to open the tournament followed by a 7:00 p.m. meeting with Baylor in the Hometown Heroes Match. GW wraps the tournament on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against Illinois State.

GW (5-1) is coming off of a 2-1 weekend at the James Madison Invitational with victories over Southeastern Louisiana and James Madison.
The Colonials hold a number of top-five national rankings after the first six matches of the season. GW currently ranks second in Division I out of 328 teams in assists per set (14.45) and digs per set (19.35) while ranking third in kills per set (15.45) and fifth in team attacks per set (40.65). As a team, GW also paces the Atlantic 10 in blocks per set (2.93), digs per set, assists per set and kills per set.
Additionally, junior setter Jordan Timmer is currently fourth in the nation in assists per set (12.21) while sophomore Chidima Osuchukwu is 14th in Division I in blocks per set (1.60), 23rd in points per set (4.95) and 28th in total blocks (32).
Senior Kelsey Newman, who has posted four double-doubles in six matches this season, ranks third in the Atlantic 10 and 23rd in the nation in kills per set, averaging 4.30.
GW enters the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record at the Charles E. Smith Center this season and is now 29-9 on its home court under fourth-year head coach Amanda Ault.
GW defeated Baylor, 3-1, in the only meeting between the two schools during the 1992 season and fell to Illinois State, 3-1, during the 1993 season. The Colonials have never faced Columbia.
