WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team opens its 39th season of competition by hosting the 28th George Washington Invitational at the Charles E. Smith Center this weekend.
The Colonials will open the season on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. against Arkansas State before a 7:00 p.m. clash with Auburn. GW concludes the tournament on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. against North Dakota.

GW holds a 1-0 record over Arkansas State after defeating the Red Wolves, 3-1, in the only meeting between the two teams during the 1997 season. The Colonials are 0-3 against Auburn in three meetings in 1988, 1989 and 2009. GW has never faced North Dakota.
GW holds a 26-9 record over the past three seasons at the Charles E. Smith Center under fourth-year head coach Amanda Ault.
Last season the Colonials returned to the Atlantic 10 Championship for the first time since 2011 and won its first postseason game since 2008 after defeating Rhode Island in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship.
GW returns nine letterwiners, including Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team selections Kelsey Newman and Chidima Osuchukwu, in addition to adding four newcomers for the 2014 season.
