2015 Schedule
WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team has released its 2015 spring schedule, which features three teams who finished the 2014 season ranked in the top 75 and three NCAA Championship qualifiers.
Led by second-year Head Coach Greg Munoz, GW opens its 2015 slate with a three-match home stint held indoors at nearby Southeast Tennis and Learning Center. Beginning on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m., the Colonials host regional opponents Morgan State, Towson (Jan. 31, 9 a.m.) and James Madison (Feb. 8, 11 a.m.).
The Colonials travel to Annapolis, Maryland, on Saturday, Feb. 14, for a 9 a.m. match-up with regional rival Navy, then make the short trip to Georgetown on Sunday, Feb. 15, to take on the Hoyas. The Buff and Blue next return home for a weekend of competition against local foe Howard (Feb. 21, 9 a.m.) Harvard (Feb. 22, 11 a.m.), which was ranked 54th in the final 2014 national poll.
GW will kickoff a seven-match road swing on Sunday, March 8, at Virginia, which finished the 2014 season ranked No. 7 and reached the NCAA Championship quarterfinal round. GW will also travel to 2014 NCAA Championship qualifier Elon, which ended the year ranked 72nd nationally, on Sunday, March 15. Before heading back to Washington, D.C., the Colonials will also visit North Florida (March 11), South Alabama (March 12) and Old Dominion (March 21), as well as Atlantic 10 opponents Davidson (March 14) and Richmond (March 22).
"I am excited to challenge the Atlantic 10 schools again this season in our fight to make the A-10 finals," said Coach Munoz. "We fell a little short last year, but I have seen some improvements from some of our returners, and our freshmen have given us a new perspective on what we can accomplish."
The squad hosts UMBC on Friday, March 27, at 2 p.m. at the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus for the final home match of the spring. The Colonials conclude the regular season with visits to conference foe George Mason on Friday, April 3, and defending A-10 champion and NCAA Championship qualifier VCU on April 5.
GW will compete in the 2015 Atlantic 10 Tournament at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, from April 16-19.
