WASHINGTON - George Washington head softball coach Stacey Schramm announced today that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent for the 2016 season. Infielder Riley Tejcek and pitcher Jayme Cone have committed to GW during the early signing period.
Riley Tejcek is a 5-foot-7 infielder from Carmel, Indiana, who has batted .371 with 53 RBIs and 60 runs scored through her junior year at Carmel High School. Tejcek boasted a .431 batting average during a stellar freshman campaign, leading the Greyhounds to a regional championship title in 2012 and receiving a Hamilton Sports Daily Honorable Mention nod that same year. She has earned High School Scholar Athlete accolades each season. Tejcek plays for the Indiana Magic Gold club team and intends to major in international affairs while at GW.
"Riley is a natural-born leader," said Coach Schramm. "I could not be more excited to have Riley join the program. She is an outstanding softball player and is exactly the type of person that we look to recruit for GW. I know that Riley will do what's best for the team in any and all situations."
Jayme Cone is a 5-foot-6 right-handed pitcher from Trabuco Canyon, California, who has accumulated a 3.49 ERA during her first three seasons at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. Cone was awarded Trinity League Honorable Mention in 2012 and has served as a two-year captain for the Eagles. She plays for the California Cruisers 18 Gold club team and is also active in her community, volunteering with Special Olympics and a local therapeutic horseback riding facility.
"We are very lucky that Jayme chose GW," Coach Schramm said. "Jayme is developing into an outstanding pitcher. She is reliable and will compete for a starting spot in our rotation, giving hitters a different look than our current pitchers. As relaxed and calm as Jayme appears, I can't wait to see her competitiveness on the field."
