GW Volleyball Sweeps Davidson For Fourth Straight Win

GW (19-7, 9-3 A-10) has now won four straight matches and concludes 2014 with a home record of 11-3 to run its four-year record at the Smith Center to 37-12 under head coach Amanda Ault.
The Colonials hit .297 (48k-15e-111a) on the evening and held statistical advantages over Davidson (4-19, 2-11 A-10) in kills (48-30), assists (47-26), service aces (7-2) and digs (50-37).
GW swung .357 in the opening frame with just four attack errors en route to a 25-18 victory. The Colonials used a 6-3 run midway through the frame to build a 19-13 advantage and fought off a late rally to clinch the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Colonials converted on 80 percent (17-of-21) of sideout point opportunities in the second set on the way to a 25-21 victory. GW opened on a 6-2 run and never looked back, taking an advantage as big as five points before Davidson pulled within two points of the lead at 22-20. A late timeout by the Colonials halted the Wildcats' momentum and a pair of kills by Newman propelled GW to the 2-0 lead.
The Colonials hit .300 in the third set with just five errors as Newman totaled seven of her 16 kills to send GW to the 3-0 sweep with a 25-18 win.
Junior Jordan Timmer notched her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with 37 assists and 11 digs while adding four errorless kills and a service ace.
Sophomore Chidima Osuchukwu put down nine winners against just one error for a .421 attack percentage. She added a match-high four blocks (one solo, three assists) to pace the Colonials at the net.
Junior Maddy Doyle led all players with 16 digs and added five assists, while freshman Christina Porada recorded a season-high three service aces along with three digs.
GW concludes the regular season with a pair of road matches next weekend. The Colonials visit Fordham on Friday night in the Bronx at 7 p.m. before facing Rhode Island on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Kingston, Rhode Island.
