NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington freshman forward Kelli Prange was named Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the first week of the season, the league announced on Monday.
Prange posted a double-double with team highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds in her collegiate debut on Friday night at Florida Gulf Coast. She made nine of her 14 field goal attempts, including 2-of-5 from behind the arc, and seven of her 12 rebounds came on the offensive glass. The native of Damascus, Maryland, scored GW's first six points of the second half and had 16 points in the period.
GW was honored with four Rookie of the Week awards last season, with eventual A-10 Rookie of the Year Caira Washington winning three times and Hannah Schaible once. Prange is the first Colonial to garner the season's first award of the season since Ugo Oha in 2001.
Prange and the Colonials return to action on Monday when they visit crosstown rival American for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
