WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team will conclude its non-conference schedule with a midweek visit to District rival American on Wednesday evening at Bender Arena. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
The match marks the first meeting between the two teams since GW's 3-1 win in the first match of head coach Amanda Ault's tenure in 2011. The Colonials lead the all-time series over the Eagles, 11-6.
GW (15-7, 6-3 A-10) split two matches this past weekend with a 3-0 sweep at La Salle and a narrow, 3-2 loss at Duquesne.
Sophomore Chidima Osuchukwu earned her fourth Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Award on Monday afternoon after totaling 31 kills on a .371 attack percentage with 18.0 total blocks in the two matches. Osuchukwu, who shares the honor with Duquesne's Arielle Love, is just the third player in program history to earn four Player of the Week Awards in a single season.
Osuchukwu enters the match ranked sixth in NCAA Division 1 with 1.54 blocks per set and 14th with 120 total blocks.
The Colonials had two players surpass 1,000 in respective statistical categories in last weekend's matches. Senior Kelsey Newman became the 12th member of GW's 1,000 kills club while junior Maddy Doyle became the 16th player in program history to achieve 1,000 career digs.
American (18-4, 9-0 Patriot League) carries a 14-match win streak into Wednesday's match. The Eagles, NCAA Sweet 16 participants a year ago, are one of the top-serving teams in the nation, averaging 1.80 aces per set (6th in NCAA Division I). AU also ranks eighth in the nation in opponent hitting percentage, limiting the opposition to a .143 attack percentage.
