GW Sailing Set for Trio of Tune-Up Regattas

WASHINGTON - GW sailing will compete in a trio of regattas this weekend in its final tune-ups before a series of key conference and national championship events next month.
Stu Nelson Regatta at Connecticut College
A Division: Hannah McNomee, Jennifer Wilson
B Division: India Johnstone, Belle Strachan
Alternate crew: Kia Olsson
For the third consecutive weekend, GW Head Coach John Pearce will send a team to a nationally competitive women's regatta. "It's our last women's regatta before the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship, so we are going to be focused on execution and improving our consistency," said Coach Pearce. Twelve of the event's 18 teams are ranked in the latest Sailing World college women's top 15, highlighted by No. 1 Yale, No. 2 Coast Guard, No. 3 Navy and No. 5 Dartmouth.

"We are sending a strong team, so we will be a top contender at this competitive regional MAISA event," said Coach Pearce. The Colonials, ranked No. 17 in the latest Sailing World college coed top 20, will be among five nationally ranked programs at the 20-team event along with No. 11 Navy, No. 13 Fordham, No. 14 St. Mary's and No. 18 Old Dominion.
MAISA Match Race Championship at Merchant Marine
Colin Kennedy, Brendan Shanahan, Madison Oleson, Matt Homa
GW will compete in the MAISA Match Race event and four-person Sonar boats for the first time with the event's top-two finishers advancing to the ICSA Match Race Championship in Oyster Bay, New York, Nov. 14-16. "This is our first-ever match race, so we are excited to try a new discipline and build a solid base of experience to build on in future years," said Coach Pearce.
